Duke University is researching how to predict the onset of Parkinsons by analysing mouse usage with machine learning classifiers

Certain patterns in mouse usage such as tremors when using a mouse, repeat queries and average scrolling velocity can be used to predict onset of Parkinson’s disease. This could be useful in preventing misdiagnosis as symptoms are similar across several diseases.

Context

Nearly one in six people suffer from neurological disorders such as Parkinsons. Researchers at Duke University are developing a model to predict early onset of such conditions.

The Project

Slight variation in physical movements can be monitored over time by using sensors or analysing mouse usage to predict early onset of certain diseases. Certain patterns in mouse usage such as tremors when using a mouse, repeat queries and average scrolling velocity can be used to predict onset of Parkinson’s disease. This could be useful in preventing misdiagnosis as symptoms are similar across several diseases.
